(Charlottesville, VA) August 3, 2017 – The recent release of the 2016 Journal Citation Reports featured impressive rankings by numerous Silverchair-hosted journals. The results of this key industry assessment reflect our mission to collaborate with our publishers to propel their content to greater reach and impact.

Some highlights from that report:

  • JAMA journals continue to be among the highest ranking in their respective fields, with JAMA Surgery (7.96) ranking second among general surgery journals and JAMA Internal Medicine (16.54) ranking second among internal medicine journals and sixth among 156 general medical journals. Among JAMA’s other prominent offerings are of course JAMA (44.41), one of the highest in science and medicine, and JAMA Pediatrics (10.25), the highest-ranking pediatric journal in the world. JAMA Oncology also made an impressive debut with a score of 16.56, one of the highest ranking among oncology journals.
  • Oxford University Press now publishes 249 titles receiving an Impact Factor, with 170 journals receiving an increase in their Impact Factor. OUP publishes the highest proportion of journals in the top 10% and top 25% of Impact Factors for at least one subject category, of any other publisher with a portfolio of over 200 journals. Other highlights from OUP include:
    • 9% of OUP journals rank in the top 10% of at least one subject category, increasing from 21.8% last year
    • 4% of OUP journals rank in the top 25% of at least one subject category, increasing from 48.6% last year
    • 68% of journals saw an increase on their previous Impact Factors
    • OUP now has 7 journals ranked at the top of their subject categories
  • Translational Vision Science and Technology (TVST), published by The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), has earned its first Impact Factor rating, of 2.221, placing it favorably among established journals in the ophthalmological field. Launched in 2012, TVST is the newest journal published by ARVO. ARVO’s other journals, Investigative Ophthalmology and Vision Science (IOVS) and Journal of Vision (JOV), received updated impact factors of 3.303 and 2.671, respectively.
  • The Geological Society of America’s Geology has been #1 in the Web of Science's "geology" category for eleven years in a row. Its impact factor and 5-year impact factor both increased this year, with the 5-year IF crossing the 5.0 threshold for the first time.
  • Annals of Internal Medicine, published by the American College of Physicians,is one of the most widely cited and influential specialty medical journals in the world. Annals'  Impact Factor increased to 17.202 and the journal is ranked 5th among 154 general medicine journals and 1st among internal medicine journals. Now in its 90th year of publication, Annals publishes a wide variety of content that promotes excellence in medicine and advances standards in the conduct and reporting of medical research and practice.
As crucial as the Impact Factor continues to be, other metrics—as well as more qualitative measurements—are gaining steam in assessing quality, reach, and value. For example, The Silverchair Platform delivered 17 of the Altmetric top 100 articles of 2016, and 4 of the top 8. This includes the #1 article, the first scholarly article authored by a sitting U. S. President and the highest scoring article ever. We host content in over 60 major disciplines, and in a variety of formats (books, journals, proceedings, and more). And so we are pleased to offer the following additional highlights from our platform’s esteemed content.

  • The SCORE resident training system is used by 98% of U. S. surgery residency programs.
  • GeoScienceWorld’s Society Services program includes the Geological Society of America’s Geology and the Society of Economic GeologistsEconomic Geology (the top two most visited journals on GSW’s platform). Economic Geology has not only seen the greatest increase in impact over the previous ten-year time span of any non-commercially published journal, but ranks as the leading journal in the field of geochemistry and petrology when rated based upon impact relative to subscription cost.
  • Launching on the Silverchair Platform in November 2017, Duke University Press hosts 50 journals, offers five digital collections, and has well over 2,000 scholarly books. Among their notable journals:
    • Transgender Studies Quarterly, the first non-medical journal about the transgender community, has received a groundswell of support and has seen strong subscriber numbers and extremely high usage despite being only in its 4th year
    • Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, Duke’s most-read title, publishes up-to-date analysis of the Affordable Care Act's implementation
    • Public Culture (sponsored by the Institute for Public Knowledge) has received four awards from the Council of Editors of Learned Journals
  • McGraw-Hill Medical encompasses a family of more than 20 sites covering a range of medical specialties, pharmacy, and physical therapy. The flagship site, AccessMedicine, features the world-renowned Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine among nearly 100 highly regarded and popular general medicine titles. The international collection includes the fully localized Spanish site AccessMedicina, in partnership with McGraw-Hill Education Mexico, and two sites featuring content published in Australia.
