Over the past several months, we've been making substantial investments in ScholarOne's infrastructure—the kind of foundational work that positions the platform for its next twenty-five years of evolution.

While peer review workflows have grown exponentially more complex, from research integrity checks, to AI-supported screenings, and more, much of the scholarly publishing industry still runs on systems built for an exponentially smaller internet. We’re changing that.

Here’s what we're building and why this matters for your work.

The Transformation Underway

We're in the midst of a comprehensive platform modernization that touches every layer of ScholarOne's architecture. Our approach to updating the technical foundation of the platform includes everything from upgrading core systems to enhancing performance capabilities. We shared how we are approaching ScholarOne modernization earlier this year. All of this work creates the infrastructure needed to deliver the product innovations our customers have been asking for: more flexibility and scalability to handle metadata, improve user experiencesintegrate with third parties, and experiment with enterprise-level AI tools.

This is the most significant infrastructure investment ScholarOne has seen in years, and it reflects our commitment to ensuring the platform can grow alongside the increasingly complex needs of scholarly publishing. We're not just maintaining what exists, we're reimagining what's possible.

What This Means for the ScholarOne Community

The improvements we're making now will manifest in tangible ways: faster processing times, greater system responsiveness, enhanced reliability under peak loads, and the technical capacity to introduce new features more rapidly. Perhaps most importantly, this work gives us the flexibility to adapt more quickly as your publishing workflows evolve.

Many of the capabilities customers have requested, and that we're actively developing, require this modernized infrastructure to function effectively. We're building with both current needs and future requirements in mind.

Our Commitment to Transparency

This level of platform-wide work requires periodic maintenance windows, and we recognize that represents a change from the patterns our users have grown accustomed to over the years. We don’t take lightly the disruption this causes to editorial operations. But we're committed to communicating clearly about what each maintenance window accomplishes and providing our community with visibility into the improvements you’ll see as a result.

We're energized by the progress we're making and grateful for our clients' partnership during this period of significant advancement. The ScholarOne you’ve relied on for years is becoming the ScholarOne that can handle what’s coming next for the future of scholarly communications. The investments we're making today are directly tied to delivering a sustainable and scalable platform.
