(Charlottesville, Virginia, and Boulder, Colorado) October 22, 2026. Silverchair announced a new partnership with ReviewerZero that brings research integrity checks to every stage of a manuscript's life in ScholarOne Manuscripts. As part of the Silverchair Universe program, ReviewerZero screens each new submission and then checks reviewers when they are invited, reviewer reports when they arrive, and revisions when authors return them.
"Integrity tools have focused on the manuscript, but readers trust a paper because it passed peer review. Who checks the review?" said Daniel Acuna, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ReviewerZero. "Editors are asking more of fewer reviewers, and a handful of bad-faith reports can do real harm to authors and journals. We built ReviewerZero to give editors clear evidence at every step of peer review, inside the ScholarOne workflow they already use."
Peer review is under strain. Silverchair's 2026 Future of Peer Review Report found that reviewer acceptance rates fell from 43% in 2018 to 22% in 2024, even as invitations to review more than doubled. In August 2026, Nature reported on review mills, in which reviewers reuse boilerplate reports and press authors to cite their own work or their collaborators' work. Most integrity screening happens when a manuscript is submitted, but problems like these surface later, during review and revision.
With ReviewerZero in ScholarOne Manuscripts, editors receive checks at four points in the life of a manuscript.
- At submission. ReviewerZero recomputes the statistical results that authors report and flags those that do not match. It compares numeric tables to find duplicated data and checks image integrity. It also checks every reference for retracted, unverifiable, or fabricated citations, verifies author identities and affiliations, and flags passages likely to be AI-generated.
- When a reviewer is invited. Before the reviewer responds, ReviewerZero checks them for conflicts of interest with the authors, signs of a fabricated or compromised account, and publication history.
- When a review is submitted. ReviewerZero assesses whether the report engages with the manuscript. It flags signs of review mills, such as templated text, and coercive citation requests that push authors to cite the reviewer's own work.
- When a revision arrives. ReviewerZero runs the submission checks again on the new version and shows editors what was resolved, what remains open, and what is new. It also checks whether the authors' point-by-point response matches the changes they made.
"Peer review is the core of ScholarOne Manuscripts, and our publishers need support at every stage of it, not only at submission," said Hannah Heckner Swain, VP of Strategic Partnerships and Platforms at Silverchair. "We're delighted to welcome ReviewerZero to the Silverchair Universe. It extends integrity checks into review and revision and gives publishers more choice in how they protect the scholarly record."
The integration is available now to publishers using ScholarOne Manuscripts. To learn more or arrange a pilot, visit reviewerzero.ai, email [email protected], or contact your Silverchair Account Manager.
