GSW is built on 46 leading geoscience journals and a rapidly growing list of over 2,000 ebooks from 28 premier publishers in the geosciences, enhanced by deep integration with nearly four million records in the GeoRef database. GSW’s new site provides scholars and professionals with a comprehensive and consolidated research experience and offers innovative tools optimized for use by academic researchers and professional geoscientists. Distinctive features of the site include: split screen display that allows users to scroll the journal article and its figures simultaneously; an integrated map-based search experience using GeoRef bounding coordinate data to discover content globally and narrow results to specific regions or locations; search results that include figures and extract views; and a re-conceptualized treatment of GeoRef Thesaurus keywords for better surfacing of related content.
In addition, through GSW’s Society Services Program, the platform serves as a cost-effective, shared infrastructure for hosting independent society sites, providing a scalable and efficient global presence for publishers, authors, and members. A number of esteemed geoscience societies have already launched their content on the platform in 2017, including SEPM Society for Sedimentary Geology, the Seismological Society of America, the Geological Society of America, and the Society of Economic Geologists.
“On the Silverchair Platform, GSW and their partner societies are now equipped to offer readers, authors, researchers, and societies across academia and industry novel methods for discovery, collaboration, and dissemination,” said Thane Kerner, Silverchair CEO. “We are proud to support them in their mission to upgrade research communications across the earth sciences."
“GeoScienceWorld is pleased to be partnering with Silverchair to provide our users with best-in-class technological innovations and unique content features,” said Alix Vance, CEO of GeoScienceWorld. “This alignment allows us to maintain our growth trajectory by expanding our service opportunities and strategic partnerships, and by providing opportunities to add high quality scholarship and improve and refine our platform’s capabilities to support the geoscience community.”
GeoScienceWorld (GSW) is a nonprofit collaborative and comprehensive Internet resource for research and communications in the earth sciences, which is built on a core database of peer-reviewed journals and is integrated with the GeoRef index. The organization gives global researchers a single point of access to 46 full-text scholarly journals and over 2,000 ebooks in addition to specialized searching capabilities and links to millions of relevant resources hosted elsewhere on the Web. Through the recently launched Society Services Program, GSW also serves as a platform for cost-effective hosting for independent society sites, providing a scalable and efficient global presence for societies, authors, and members.
