(CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA/NORTHBROOK, IL) July 19, 2012—The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) has launched the next generation of CHEST Journal and CHEST Books on SCM6, the natively semantic online hosting platform from Silverchair Information Systems (Silverchair). This new online edition of the CHEST Publications includes an all-new iPhone and iPad application going live later this month that will encompass the entire CHEST archive (all 77 years of CHEST content).
“Physicians and other health care professionals are struggling with information overload,”said Steve Welch, Senior Vice President of Communications and Executive Editor of CHEST. “A critical goal in moving to Silverchair’s SCM6 platform is to help readers better discover and manage the information they need to be effective and keep up to date amidst the deluge of information they receive daily. Silverchair’s semantic technology allows us to deliver specific content to our readers where and when they need it in their workflows and on their device of choice.”
The transition to SCM6 brings a number of improvements to CHEST Publications including
- Semantic search provides better results by normalizing synonyms, alternate spellings, abbreviations, and jargon and by offering topical filters for precise refinement of results.
- Semantic collections organize the full spectrum of CHEST Publications resources into key topical areas.
- Content relationships recommend to readers highly relevant articles, book chapters, clinical resources, and other resources.
- User-centered design offers an intuitive interface to the CHEST Publications resources and functionality, saving readers time
- Mobile optimization for all CHEST Publications optimizes the retrieval and reading experience on mobile devices
- iOS application provides subscribers with access to the full CHEST archive – all 77 years of content (in App Store later this month).
“The ACCP is renowned for forward-thinking approaches to information delivery, both across disciplines and across media,” said Silverchair CEO, Thane Kerner. “The all-new CHEST Publications sites and applications for iPhone and iPad are designed to leverage the full power of the the SCM6 platform, including semantic search, dynamic collections, and semantic content relationships that extend to the entire CHEST archive. This depth of integration is supported by our array of platform APIs that deliver the semantic capabilities of SCM6 remotely to the devices, applications, and health care professionals that rely on CHEST for the state of the art in cardiopulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.”
