KEY FEATURES OF THE JAMA NETWORK
User-Centric Design
The JAMA Network breaks down the silos that previously separated the AMA’s journals online, providing users with an intuitive, integrated interface that highlights resources—including CME, Online First articles, and multimedia—from across the JAMA Network. The JAMA network is designed for time-pressed health professionals. It uses dynamic content relationships, best-answer semantic search, and drag-and-drop site personalization functionality to connect busy professionals with mission-critical information quickly.
Content in Context
The semantic architecture of Silverchair’s SCM6 platform enables the surfacing of highly relevant articles and other resources from across all the publications in the JAMA Network and beyond. Semantic fingerprinting identifies content relationships and presents them in an easy-to-navigate interface that updates continuously as new content is published.
Redesigned Article Page
New article page design simplifies a complex environment. All materials relevant to a given article are featured in a quick-reference tabbed interface. Users can easily view the article, figures, tables, references, supplemental data, or related multimedia. Associated CME can be accessed directly from the article page. Curated links present related editorials, letters, and other resources. And the SCM6 semantic engine provides
links to an array of highly related resources from across the
JAMA Network and beyond. Additionally, article tools have
been carefully selected to minimize clutter and provide
users with simple but extremely useful functionality.
CME
CME is available directly on associated articles allowing users to simply click “start quiz” as they read the article. A new CME section pulls together all the CME activities from across the JAMA Network and makes it easy to browse by subject, by date, or by publication. A CME dashboard shows users a personalized display of all available, in progress, and completed CME activities. CME is also indicated in Tables of
Contents, Topic Collections, and Search Results.
Semantic Collections
Users from all fields of medicine will find semantically generated topic collections that combine related content from across the JAMA Network. Medical specialists can quickly find all content related to their specialty. Users can also set up alerts to let them know when new content is published from any publication in the JAMA Network in their area of interest.
Multimedia
Videos and podcasts stream instantly on the JAMA Network. Author interviews and other media associated with an article stream right from the article environment. All multimedia from the Network has also been brought together in one central archive for quick access to videos, podcasts, and interactive media.
Semantic Search
Semantic search provides better results by normalizing synonyms, alternate spellings, acronyms, and jargon and by connecting closely related concepts. A search on “heart attack,” for example, returns results for “myocardial infarction” along with other closely related terms. This functionality vastly improves the way users find information by providing results based on a semantic relevancy ranking of normalized concepts and not just word matching.
Mobile
All JAMA Network sites are fully optimized for use on mobile devices with a reactive design providing streamlined ease of navigation and access to full content.
Integrated E-Commerce
New custom-designed JAMA Network store provides streamlined purchase of subscriptions, CME, articles, and other resources.
