Background

When the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) needed a way to address the growing demand for greater clinical practice research within the communication sciences and disorders (CSD) discipline, they turned to Silverchair.

The CSD discipline has seen exponential growth in recent years resulting in a demand for additional resources, knowledge, and research in the area. ASHA had many of the desired resources. However, they needed a flexible platform that could handle a myriad of content-types and grow dynamically with the field as further resources and tools develop.

They chose the Silverchair’s SCM6 product development platform to create a product unhindered by legacy content formats and tailored to a specific audience. They began by establishing the ASHA Wire portal for journal and newsletter content. They recently expanded their portal to include the Clinical Research Education Library (CREd Library).

A Dynamic Collection of Resources

Funded in part by a grant from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), CREd Library is a dynamic collection of resources – from journal articles to tools and multimedia interviews – designed to connect emerging and established scientists and CSD professionals with critical resources for accelerating clinical research, and it’s all available free.

  • Under One Umbrella

Publishing CREd Library under the ASHA Wire umbrella connects all CREd Library with ASHA’s 25 other publications and grants CREd Library increased organic exposure to ASHA’s 182,000 members for faster adoption and greater reach – helping ASHA accomplish their goal of using CREd Library to advance the knowledge of clinical research methods and practices.

  • Semantic Integration

Content is automatically semantically tagged to accelerate the dissemination of knowledge by surfacing related content from any of ASHA’s publications.

  • Unique Publishing Structure

CREd Library reimagines publishing structure by organizing content around categories instead of traditional publication conventions (volume, issue, article) and publishing on an on-going basis. As the CSD clinical research discipline continues to develop, ASHA will be able to quickly add new categories to accommodate new findings, tools, and areas of interest.

The Future for ASHA

As ASHA continues to focus on empowering and supporting audiologists and speech-language professionals, Silverchair will continue to serve as product development partners to help them better serve the CSD community.
