Client Background

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is an organization of 60,000 pediatricians committed to the attainment of optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Its activities include policy statements, practice guidelines, publications, and other health resources from the nation's leading child health experts supported by scientific findings.

Projects

Silverchair was contracted to design, develop, and operate AAP's Practice Management Online and Patient Education Online. Participating in all aspects of product conceptualization, design, data architecture, and development, Silverchair helped AAP realize its vision on these two highly successful products.

Practice Management Online (PMO)

PMO is a one-stop resource for pediatricians and practice managers, pulling together all the resources needed for starting a pediatric practice. The thrust of the project was finding a way to organize, convert, and semantically tag many diverse materials that were not previously available online.

Result

Leveraging our experience in semantic tagging and taxonomy, Silverchair worked with AAP to develop a practice management taxonomy, and used this taxonomy to forge contextual relationships between these diverse resources. Additionally, connections to other resources, including AAP's online bookstore, were realized, resulting in greater access to the tools pediatricians need, where and when they need them.

Patient Education Online

Patient Education Online pulled together patient information handouts on a variety of topics to be used in a pediatric practice. Available in both English and Spanish, these handouts were previously only available in print and CD-ROM format. The purpose of this project was to make the handouts available online, both as downloadable PDF documents or via a printable web view.

Result

Again leveraging our experience in semantics, Silverchair captured and tagged this patient information to accomplish contextual linking to other resources on the AAP website. Additionally, using Silverchair Content Manager's (SCM) syndication and content sharing features, this content can be shared via RSS feeds and integrated into an individual pediatrician's site, a group practice site, or a large multi-practice organization's site.

Background

Ardor Scribendi, A. Bernard Ackerman’s medical publishing company, is devoted to publishing works in dermatology and dermatopathology in a novel, substantial, esthetic way. Founded in 1997, the company was looking for a novel way to provide dermatological content on the web with unique pedagogical characteristics.

Project

Working in concert with Ardor Scribendi, Silverchair developed a number of interactive features and functionality that made derm101.com the most comprehensive library of dermatologic resources online. Using the interactive quiz-driven features of SSC, Silverchair developed a series of quizzes to test the diagnostic ability of users, as well as a 2,000-question Board Review test in the area of Cutaneous Medicine & Surgery.

Result

The integration of teaching tools, quizzes, board preparation exercises and other content highlights the depth and breadth of dermatological content available through Ardor Scribendi. The quiz-driven approach to interactive content shows the many diverse ways Silverchair can develop, configure, and display content to meet the needs of clients and end users.
